Hello blog world!
As some of you may or may not know, I am in Ohio at the moment! Ohio is my home... I should say, Ohio is where my family is and where all of my crap is, tightly and neatly tucked away in a storage unit in an obscure corner of the state. Last year, I spent a majority of the year in WV and this spring/summer, I have decided to take a trip west. A stint of my childhood was lived in 29 Palms California, right next to Joshua Tree NP. I have a lot of memories that I recall often of that place, and have planned for a long time, to head back to the west coast for a visit, or maybe more. This summer.... it's on like Donkey Kong!
I will be heading back to WV, for an unknown amount of time, by the end of this week. After I take care of some things in WV and visit a few friends, I'll be heading back to Ohio for a day (the night really... and to pack) then headed west! It's taken a lot of prayer, good timing and some good reasons to get the ball rolling at this point in my life. This trip will be a welcomed change!
I will be driving an 88 Toyota 4runner, 4cyl 4x4. Its a decent running little truck with plenty of room for all of my stuff, room to sleep and room for my dog (a Boston Terrier name Tana.) A major breakdown is my only fear for this trip... but hopefully I have done enough preventative care and checks to make it without any major problems! I will be carrying a full, but very basic set of tool, just in case!
Here is my packing list so far:
-GPS
-Blue 5 gallon water container
-Large Pelican Case for clothes
-Bike and Kayak on The Yakima roof rack, locked to the roof
-River Gear, paddles and spare gear
-Sleeping bag, Blankets and Pad
-a few backpacking items
-Eno Hammock
-Longboard
-Slackline and Harness/Chalkbag
-Black Backpack full of personal stuff
-Tool boxes
-Camera gear (Nikon D80, GoPro Hero HD and Casio G2)
-Netbook/charger
-FT Ham Radio
-Ipod/cell phone and chargers
-Tana (the dog), Food, Bowls, Leash
-Propane Stove and spare tanks along with cookware
-Few minor spare parts
-2 ton jack, tire iron and plug set
-Street Atlas
-Sccy CPX2 9mm
-paper and a pen/pencil
That is pretty much it! I may add or subtract a thing or two, but I think thats about it! There are a couple odds and ends, along with a loose end or two to tie up over the next day or two, then its "West Virginia or BUST!"
See you on the road hippies!
